  • Fairness and Truth: God's character is upright, and His actions are completely free from evil or favoritism.
  • Defending the Weak: The Bible shows God as a champion for the poor, the oppressed, widows, and orphans. See to it that the fatherless receive what is fair, see to it that the fatherless receive what is fair (God Says this twice in his word right in a row) and make sure the fatherless have a prospered way upon receiving what is fair. Justice is by definition what is fair. God also says to make sure to plead the cause of the fatherless and the widow. To plead the cause of the fatherless and the widow means to seek justice (not in the court of law full of sinners) justice by definition of what is fair for them, protect the vulnerable, and help those who cannot defend themselves. This timeless command appears in Isaiah 1:17 as a core part of living a righteous life and doing what is good. 

  • Defending the Weak: The Scriptures present God as a defender of the poor, the oppressed, the widow, and the orphan. In His Word, God commands twice in succession: “See to it that the fatherless receive what is fair.” This repetition underscores the seriousness of the obligation. Justice, by definition, is the giving of what is fair, and God further instructs us to plead the cause of the fatherless and the widow.

    To plead their cause means to actively seek justice—not merely through human courts, which are imperfect, but through the higher moral standard of fairness that protects the vulnerable and supports those who cannot defend themselves. This timeless command appears in Isaiah 1:17, forming a core pillar of righteous living and the pursuit of what is good.

  • Dealing with Sin: Justice means that wrong actions have a cost, which is balanced by grace and forgiveness through faith. 

The exact phrase "For the Lord is a God of justice" is found in Isaiah 30:18,

alongside other key passages like Psalm 33:5 and Deuteronomy 32:4.
